Fiona Sorenson, Principal at So-Ren:
“I have many years of experience in the environmental field. I studied Earth Resource Management in Hull in the early 90s, an MBA at the University of Sheffield as the Millennium turned and I have just completed an online qualification at Cambridge…but I was sat at home in Leeds. Originally a Donny girl it is fair to say I am a Yorkshire lass. Sustainability runs through my veins, as does business. In the early part of my career I was quite despondent as I felt that the environmental movement would supress business and therefore fulfilment and fun. However, I learned about the business opportunities and drivers created by environmental legislation and became enthused by the development of environmental businesses and technologies. It’s fun to see wind farms that can ‘knock the skin off a rice pudding’, microgeneration, advancements in packaging technologies, concerned construction and global businesses re-branding in line with a changed customer demand. I personally feel sustainability couldn’t be more important here and now at this point of economic recovery which absolutely must be aligned with purposeful enterprise.”
