James Stier

Yorkshire-based cinematographer working across documentaries, branded content, broadcast and short-form narrative. Based near Hebden Bridge, James films across the UK, USA and internationally, with credits on major platforms including Netflix, Amazon, BBC, Channel 4 and Sky.

He’s collaborated with brands like Porsche, The Peninsula Hotels and Ilford Photo, bringing cinematic visuals and emotionally resonant storytelling to projects around the world. His background includes training at the National Film and Television School, service as a helicopter operations photographer in the Royal Air Force, and international documentary work across the Himalayas, the US and Europe.

A member of the Guild of Television Camera Professionals and BSC mentee, James has worked on award-winning features and high-profile series including Beckham (Netflix), Inside Art (Sky Arts) and multiple campaigns with Daniel Ricciardo. Known for a collaborative, story-first approach, he helps shape a project’s visual identity through lighting, composition and movement.
