Rob Wilmot is one of the Founders of Freeserve, Director at BCS Digital and Chairman at Doncaster College.
Rob was the founding Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Freeserve, the phenomenally successful Internet Service Provider backed by Dixon Stores Group where, after an IPO on the London Stock Exchange and New York NASDAQ, he became one of the youngest executive officers of a FTSE 100 company at the age of 29. Rob exited Freeserve after the completion of a £1.6 billion sale to Wanadoo (a division of France Telecom) in 2001.
It was whilst building Freeserve that Rob first became interested in social media (it just wasn’t called that back then.) Now, as a director of BCS digital, Rob regularly gives talks and seminars about social media, as well has helping clients navigate the possibilities and potential pitfalls of this social phenomenon.
Rob also sits on a number of corporate and public sector boards and invests in internet and technology based start-ups. He is also a visiting Fellow at the University of Bradford within the School of Computing, Informatics and Media, where he helps with the commercialisation of research and IP. Rob was made an honorary Doctor of the University in July 2010 for his services to business and the internet.
BCS Digital creates online brand strategies for B2B, B2C and clients in the public sector. They deliver results-driven websites, e-mail campaigns, search marketing, social media and mobile solutions. Their joined-up thinking ensures seamless integration with offline communications, public relations and creative campaigns.
I believe in and support the Yorkshire Mafia because it works. The groundswell of conversation within the LinkedIn group and its diverse subgroups, combined with the informal offline get togethers nurtures the perfect community for doing business.
