It's Yorkshire....make it epic.
by Geoff Shepherd
We gave Bradley TV a brief: “This is Yorkshire, so make it epic”. We think they nailed it.
It’s not often that someone can come along and amaze you with their take on your business. Bradley.tv did just that for us when they produced The Yorkshire Mafia Showreel.
How do you describe what The Yorkshire Mafia does, what it has achieved and what it is for without writing an essay everytime?
This was the predicament we found ourselves in. So we commissioned Bradley.tv to create a showreel for us. We can’t tell you how many times we’ve watched it.
Both parties knew that a killer shot was needed. We just didn’t expect Bradley.tv to take that so literally.
The only thing to do was get Geoff and Sat on top of the swankiest building in the area, Bridgewater Place and film them from a helicopter.
Usually we’d leave the spiel at that. However there is a fantastic anecdote we’d like to share with you.
Timing on a project like this is paramount. Getting that killer shot takes a huge amount of planning and coordination. We had it all locked down for precisely midday. The scene was set, the weather was good, air traffic control had let us through the main flight paths into Leeds, the helicopter was in position, Geoff and Sat we at the top of the building and we were rolling with 3 million pounds worth of equipment.
As we swept into the target zone and circled Bridgewater Place we realised that we couldn’t see the guys. There was a frantic flurry of air-ground communication. It was established that being at the top of the building wasn’t any use if they couldn’t get through the fire door that leads onto the roof. The security guard had forgotten the key.
Geoff: “Where the **** is the key?”
Helicopter: “Where the **** is Geoff?”
Security Guard: “I forgot the key.”
Geoff: “You forgot the ******* Key?”
Helicopter: “Where the **** is Geoff?”
Security Guard: “My boss has a spare!”
Geoff: “Where is your boss?”
Helicopter: “Geoff? Where the **** are you?”
Security Guard: “He’s in an important meeting.”
Helicopter: “Geoff. We’re burning £250 a minute in ******* diesel here!!!”
Geoff: “Take me to the meeting!”
Producer on the ground: “Geoff’s going to a ******* meeting?”
Security Guard then took Geoff and Sat to the important meeting on 23rd floor where the owners and managers of Bridgewater Place were having their annual meeting with the Anti-Terrorist branch of West Yorkshire Police. The subject of the meeting included the likelihood of terrorist activity and potential threats from the air.
Security Guard: “Erm, sorry to bother you Sir. Please can I have the key for the fire door?”
Boss: “Why do you need that?!”
Security Guard: “The Yorkshire Mafia need to be on the roof so they can be shot by that helicopter!”
